READY FOR YOUR NEXT ENGLISH CLUB
30 questions.
A room full of conversation.
English conversation questions for adults who want to practise everyday speaking. Use this sheet in pairs, in a small group, or as a warm-up before conversation bingo.
Start with the short questions. Move to stories when your group feels comfortable. These are activity suggestions, not a language-level assessment.

A 10-minute activity you can run today
Prepare: pairs or groups of three, one question sheet per group, and a timer. Give learners permission to skip any question, invent an answer, or use notes.
- 0–2 minutes · Model. Ask “What do you like to cook?” Answer in two sentences. Show one follow-up: “How did you learn to make it?”
- 2–7 minutes · Take turns. Each person chooses a question. Their partner listens and asks one follow-up. Change who speaks after each answer; aim for three questions, not all 30.
- 7–10 minutes · Share. Each pair chooses one idea to share, with their partner's permission. Finish with a useful phrase they heard.
For a quiet group, allow one minute to prepare an answer. For a talkative group, ask for an example or a different point of view. Use the group timer to keep the round short.
Your printable question sheet
Choose any three. Listen, then ask one more question. You may always pass.

Turn the warm-up into a group activity

Questions hosts ask
Do learners have to answer every question?
No. Let each pair select three suitable questions. Offer a pass and avoid asking people to share sensitive personal experiences.
Can I use the sheet online?
Yes. Share this page and put learners in pairs or small breakout groups. Each participant can read the same sheet without signing in.
Can I print copies for my class?
Yes. These original Group Ready questions are free to print and use in your classes and conversation clubs. The print button also lets you save a PDF in browsers that provide that option.
